Thank god. Well the show at the Key Club (6/30/98) was undoubtedly pimp as
fuck. I must admit i was a bit sketchy at first considering the recent
reviews, but in my opinion, the bone definitely pulled off a great show.
True, they obviously weren't as tight as i've seen in the past -but it
usually wasn't that noticeable unless you were truely inspecting. During
their set, all of the songs played were off albums before Chim Chim.
Granted, there was one song i didn't know -i doubt it's new. It wasn't
until their oncore thingy that they played any Chim Chim songs. Most of em
were their songs with a ska feel, so maybe it is true that their new shit's
gonna be more ska influenced.
Well i did find out that James Grey isn't permanent. He's just playing
drums for these few shows, but i have no idea who's gonna take his place.
I thought James did pretty well (but i'll be the first to admit that i
don't know shit as far as the technicalities instruments-i just know what i
think sounds good). Although he had to be directed a few times and got off
beat once or twice, i didn't feel it was any detrimental mistakes. Then
again i could just be unconsciously biased considering i've known him for a
while.
Oh and Jeff, keep your head up! Don't worry, there's flukes w/everything
and most likely your experience (actually that show) was just that. I
don't know how much my opinion's worth to ya, but i thought they still had
it and i was groovin the whole time and it was genuinely unforced J. I
don't mean to be stereotypical, but on average, skins and punks don't dig
on the styles of music Fishbone plays. And of my friends who went with me
(2 unite skinheads, and 1 punk), even they only had good things to say
about the show (which is rare). Well everyone, i'm gonna start working on
the WOC web page now, and probably all night. So hopefully it'll be up by
tomorrow, and trust me -it'll answer everyone's questions as far as
merchandise, past members of the band, Come-U-Nutty Projects (WOC members,
family, and friend's other bands), etc. -Lauren
p.s. corndawg- what'd you think about the show?
