I bled, I sweated, I screamed, I hurt, and oh lord was it worth it. Being
my first time seeing Fishbone, I really did not know what to expect. The
club (pretty decent for a new joint) didn't open the doors till around 10
and the opener was pretty lame. Rap/Funk/metal i guess. There name was
Jedi. Funny thing was the DJ is the fresh food chef in UNCW's cafeteria.
Got a kick out of that. The crowd was enormous for a Wilmington show, but i
dont know compared to 'bone shows. Only being exposed to the new album, the
101 collection and GAMAB.. I didnt recognize a lot..but my highlights were
U.G.L.Y. Cholly, Just Allow, and Alcoholic. the set was well over 2 hours.
the crowd reacted good and every once in awhile would get a tad rowdy,
enough for Angelo to take a swim. As far as the experience went for me,
well i go to about 3 shows a week locally and travel far and wide and talent
is not a factor, I only crave the energy from the band. Boy, was i on
overload. I was astounded at EVERYONE in the bands skill (except when
ruined by the typical screw up Wilmington sound man). Angelo's energy was
non-stop and through the roof. I brought along some friends who havent
heard Fishbone before, but as soon as they cranked up, bright smiles spread
across there face, like those only the 'bone could bring out. Depressing
thing though, i had a 8 o clock criminal justice final the next morn, but oh
lord was it worth it. Another thing...Its great knowing you can meet great
people at shows through a simple list like this. Tim, look for me at every
NC and surrounding Fishbone show from now on. My nuttwerk, my new family, I
know how you feel now.
thankx,
Garrett
