Sadly I couldn't make this one off Down Under gig but a few mates from work who regularly go to the Byron Bay East Coast Blues and Roots Festival (or in this case Bluesfest) made a particular effort to see Fishbone because of my raving about them over the years. Another close friend (Shane Rozario - http://www.shanerozario.com) took the shots that are associated with this gig page and he also promised before the festival to check the band out. All of my friends reported back from the festival saying that they were blown away by Fishbone's energy. One stated that he believed Fishbone were THE surprise act of the whole festival and a crowd favourite. I think the video footage that someone kindly has put up shows the size of the crowd and the kind of energy that was going down on the night.
Shane said that the band was "explosive and really crazy". Really impressive and the crowd loved it. My mates from work thought that the feeling of being in the audience was at it's best when Fishbone were playing. One said the most impressive sight was Norwood and his sheer effortlessness on bass when "playing some off the wall heavy n' fast stuff". All my friends commented of the joy of seeing crowd surfing which took them back to the good old days of the early 90's when it wasn't outlawed. The crowd loved it when Angelo and Dre got into the human surf.
I don't think anyone commented on the songs just the overall impression of the band and their ownership of the audience's attention. Hopefully this gig grab a few fans, at worst, it grabbed some admirers of the legendary Fishbone!
