All in all, a really disappointing show, just because the Fishbone set was
so damn short. Like Ryan said, Fishbone had been slotted for thirty minutes,
but NOFX and Pennywise ran long, so Fishbone only played for 20-25 minutes.
Half the crowd had already left by the time they hit the stage, and most of
the rest stood well back from the stage, unresponsive. They played six
songs: "The Warmth of Your Breath," "Beergut," "Alcoholic," a shortened
version of "Junkie's Prayer" that segued into "Question of Life," "Freddie's
Dead," and finally an excellent version of "Monkey Dick." By that time, I
was warmed up, ready for more, and then suddenly it was over. The few
Fishbone fans in attendence cried meely for more, but it was useless: the
stage hands were already unplugged the mikes and instruments, ready to move
on to the next city. To make matters worse, I fumbled away my chance at a
Fishstick.
There were some bright spots, the Dance Hall Crashers in particular, but for
Fishbone fans, I have to say it really wasn't worth the time or money.
Hopefully they'll be hitting the club circuit again after Warped so I can
see a real show in support of Chim Chim.
