What's up everyone, just got back from the Fishbone show tonight (May 2nd, 2005) at the Culture Room. I gotta tell you guys, the bone ripped it tonight. I saw them about a year ago at the same venue and that show was pretty weak and uninspired but tonight's show was fucking great! The whole band was on fire...I didn't stick around to see Slightly Stoopid but they sure had a hard act to follow. The whole band was really into it and tight...Angelo was on fire. Here's the setlist to the best of my memory:
Unyielding Conditioning
Lyin' Ass Bitch
Karma Tsunami
Ma and Pa
FacePlant Scorpion BackPinch (this was the first time I ever heard this song and it was extremely good....upbeat ska reminiscent of Ma & Pa...really good!!!!)
PreMaDawnutt
Freddie's Dead
The Suffering
Then they were gonna do Alcoholic but apparently there was not enough time left in the set so they went into a scorching tight version of
Party at Ground Zero
Tori Ruffin was not present...everyone else was. John McNight played trombone and guitar on a few tracks. The 2 Dres have really become a part of Fishbone. Overall, I can't say enough about how impressed I was by the Bone. Over the years, a lot of us have seen different versions of Fishbone and maybe wondered if their days were numbered...I'm telling you from what I saw tonight, the latest version of Fishbone is the shit!!!! It looks like they really have it together and you could really see that EVERYONE in the band was giving 100% and really enjoying it! My only complaint is that I wish they would have done some of their more "rock" numbers (Behavior Control Technician, Servitude, Sunless Saturday, etc.) The set was mostly ska....But on a scale of one to ten, the show was easily an 8 or a 9. They definitely should have been the main act on the bill but I can understand what they are trying to do from a business point of view. So from a fellow soldier, I'm telling you, DO NOT miss their show when they come to a venue near you. I'm gonna see'em tomorrow night again!!!!!
