Man oh man oh man.
I've been a Fishbone Soldier for close to 20 years now. This was my first experience in the Fishbone Navy! On a boat is probably the most intimate setting in which I've ever seen them- the size of the space was about equivalent to seeing a basement show, but a basement show with a balcony- and DAMN was that a good thing!
Fishbone NEVER dissapoints, but this show was a special highlight for me.

A Fishbone historical highlight, for me at least. While the venue has appeared to be in motion many times during Fishbone shows in the past, this time that motion was real!
It was the perfect combination of circumstances - calm night with cool breeze, good sound inside the ship, enthusiastic yet friendly crowd. Angelo jumped from the Lido deck into the audience more than once and flying fish in general were abundant. in fact, several of the more inebriated male audience members decided to hook their feet under the railing of the upper deck, swing upside and remove their clothes. Unfortunately, no female fans followed suit... :(
Big respect to Rocky George, playing with a broken picking hand; in obvious pain but completing the show anyway.
Musically speaking, I have come full circle with Fishbone. With each major lineup change comes the skeptical period followed by a gradual realization that one of Fishbone's greatest strengths is the ability to make personnel changes into sonic reinventions. This version of the band sounds like no other. Horns are lush and full; vocals have never been better; dancehall vibe evident; songs sound less heavy and more upbeat - even the older stuff; more a general sense of fun than previous incarnations. i fail to see how anyone exposed to this music could not be moved by it. If you try, you will catch on.
Thanks again to Fishbone for another memorable night.
